Day Eight: One!

Our boy turned one a week ago. Happy birthday to the happiest little guy around!
Corin found his feet right before his birthday.
Here are some fun facts that I compiled for our grandparent books this year:
Firsts:
4 weeks- first smile
5 weeks- first giggle
6 weeks- first ER visit (aspirated spit up)
3 months-  first laugh; sitting in the bumbo chair
6 months- sitting unassisted, frog-jump crawling, first solid food (rice cereal, avocado)
9 months- true crawling, pulling up, chugging a sippy cup
10 months- speed crawling, waving, clapping, "Up/Down" arms, high fives, first race (and victory)
11 months- words (Dada, Mama, Lily, Down, More, bye bye), holding up one finger
12 months- walking holding on to walker toys, pointing

Likes: attention from sister, petting (or grabbing) Woody & Buzz, making people smile, making loud noises, singing "the Lily song," laughter, rooting through cabinets and drawers, especially those with pots and pans, being outside, pulling hair, emptying Lily's bookcase, chugging cold water from his sippy cup, splashing water in the bathtub or pools, climbing up stairs, climbing up slides, crawling through playscape tunnels, crawling off of the changing pad, preferably with no diaper on while being chased
Dislikes: diaper changes, having to come inside after having been outside, having a toy taken away, running out of food, long car rides, pacifiers, split pea soup
Favorite foods: cinnamon cranberry applesauce, root veggie stew, pumpkin puree, mum mum
Favorite toys: plastic camping plateware, Git's old Fisher Price airplane, the collander, the doggie door

Statistics:
Birth- 8 lbs, 4 oz, 21.5 inches
2 weeks- 9 lbs, 10.5 oz, 22.25 inches
2 months- 12 lbs, 14 oz, 23.5 inches
4 months- 17 lbs, 8 oz, 25.75 inches
6 months- 19 lbs, 13 oz, 27 inches
9 months- 22 lbs, 4 oz, 28 inches
12 months- 23 lbs, 4 oz, 29.5 inches

I cannot pick a favorite moment with Corin. He smiles and laughs so often that favorite moments happen every day. I know that it will not always be so lighthearted. The fact that he loves to laugh as he's crawling away from me up the stairs as much as he laughs when tickled shows an inclination to mischief and a lack of caution that will take some getting used to. He is also very sure about what he wants. I slipped him a cheddar snack out of Lily's backpack a week or two ago while Lily was playing on the playground. I didn't know if she'd want to share snack, so I was trying to be quick. While he was munching, I continued to talk to another mom, but it wasn't long before I looked over to see Corin grabbing the top handle of the backpack and slamming the whole bag repeatedly into the grass yelling, "More! More! More!"

He certainly got more at his birthday. Because his birthday is on Christmas Eve, when most people are already at their holiday destination, Corin got to have three birthday celebrations. On Friday night, we invited several of our neighbors over for a little party. We had a Jack-Jack theme (arising out of his Disney Cruise Diaper Dash victories), complete with Jack-Jack cupcakes from an awesome local bakery and Jack-Jack coloring pages for the younger guests to make him birthday cards. Corin soaked up all of the company and gladly received his first taste of cake, a taste which did not, happily, prevent him from falling asleep shortly after the party ended.

A cupcake! Yikes!

Then, on Sunday, Grammie, Gramps, Mo, and Git came to town. We got a little cake for him and took it with us to The Salt Lick, a barbecue restaurant out in the hill country made famous by "Man Vs. Food," ESPN, and other TV shows. Corin celebrated like a good little Texan, eating brisket, smoked turkey, ribs, sausage, and beans.

Beef!

Sugar!
Gram and Gramps went back home after our late lunch, but Mo and Git were still around on Monday, the actual birthday day, and we went out for another lunch, this time at Mandola's. My brother Mike brought me Mandola's gelato in the hospital hours after I gave birth to Corin last year, so I thought it was fun to bring Corin for his own gelato on his birthday.

Later that night, we opened birthday presents under the Birthday Tree, a smaller Christmas tree with a special garland that we made to become a new tradition. And then, of course, it was time for Christmas! What a week!
